Dusty Rose was the color of the beveled
edge on our old countertops -
Autumn Harmony is the name of our
granite that comes from India.
This is the kitchen after it has been sprayed - the coatings put over the color on the wood.
So, unfortunately, the contact paper got the best of our cabinet guys - I was really hoping to come home and find it all gone! Not the case and now it looks even worse.
The granite was a saga in itself. . . . I was told they were going to start at 10:00 a.m. at the earliest and they would call us an hour before to let us know they were coming since we were staying in a hotel. Well, when Scott and Kade got home at 9:45 the granite guys had already come and gone. Thank goodness Scott was able to get a hold of them and they came back. When they arrived they discovered a corner of the granite had been broken off - they had the piece and it was a back corner piece, but Scott wasn't happy and told them if it was going to look terrible then they had to do it over (which would have meant another WEEK without a sink). They also discovered that the pieces of granite that were to go on each side of the stove were cut too big. Good job template guy - you really knew what you were doing! So the guys headed back to the shop and we were hoping they'd be back and we could keep our 3:00 appointment time with the plumber. They did come back - quite soon actually and the broken corner was hardly noticable and after they put it in and put the backsplash on no one will ever be able to tell where the broken part was. Then the granite guys told us that the undermount sink has to cure for 24 hours before you can add plumbing. . . has this company ever done this before? Anyway - Scott was able to get with our granite place and they made an appointment for a plumber to come on Saturday and not charge us Saturday prices.
This granite fit great when they brought it back - they weren't even the same depth on each side when they were too big - it was crazy.
Then we find out our cabinets aren't level and they have to use a shim and make the sides even so the granite met in the middle. The guys who were doing the install were really good.
And finally we have countertops!
And it looks AWESOME!
Keian is pointing to the new stuff.
Yes, an undermount sink!
The house is a complete dust bomb! We spent hours on Saturday cleaning - here is a dead cockroach in our laundry room exhaust fan. How did he get up there anyway? Guess a deep clean was in order.
Treasures found behind the dryer. Don't know why I am airing our filthiness all over the internet, but it's good for memories.
So after a yummy waffle breakfast at Castle's on Saturday morning our plumbers came and got to work on the sink. I took this picture of them working and the guy on the left said, "Hey, we didn't get to smile."
So I took this one and he still didn't look! They seem to have done a great job - the water runs, the dishwasher hasn't leaked, and the garbage disposal grinds food.
Running water in a kitchen sink is a beautiful sight!
Love that faucet - Costco $99 - best deal of the process!
Once we had water we had to figure out what to do with the insides of the cupboards since they looked hideous! Off to Lowe's where we found this great non-adhesive Smooth Top Easy Liner and it made a world of difference. Scott's been busy using my cutting mat and rotary cutter to get all the cupboards lined - it is much better.
Here's Keian thinking he's getting away with something important. I can't wait until my cupboards have doors again and I can lock him out!So I guess when we ever get to sell our house the buyers will eventually find the mess underneath these liners, but hopefully it's after we're long gone!
Now we are just waiting for our hinges to arrive. Who would have ever guessed the hinges would be the biggest hang-up? And I mean that literally and figuratively. We've been to most of the specialty stores in Albuquerque with no luck and we are hoping our internet find will yield great results. Our cabinet doors are made funny or something so the usual hinge you can buy at Lowe's just doesn't work. Maybe by next weekend we'll have doors!
