MaTween Cake

The progression of the last cake of 2010 - Keian's birthday is last so this means Scott has already made two other amazing cakes this year.  Good thing we don't have twelve kids because this tradition might get a little overwhelming!

This cake was by far the most difficult to date.  Part of the problem was we usually find a great idea on the internet and go from there.  Well, most of the Lightning McQueen cakes we found were made with fondant and Scott refuses to have a cake the isn't edible.
I'm pretty sure he makes cakes because he likes to create things like this out of a 9x13 pan of cake.  The engineer in him just can't help it!

The cake took one can of frosting just to hold all the pieces together!
And now for the red - 1 1/2 jars of that Wilton icing dye - No Taste Red.

 Eyelids

McQueen's Eyes - blue and black frosting on top of gummi life-savers.

Blue frosting windows and oreo tires.

 Smile McQueen!
Now for the funny part of the story. . .
We had a bunch of Kirra and Kade's friends come over for a movie party on Friday night when Scott was making Keian's cake.  After they all left we got Kirra and Kade to bed, but Keian kept crying and when I went in to find out what was wrong he said, "tids are gone, no more party - didn't eat MaTween cake!"  The kids all left and he thought that was his party and we didn't even eat the McQueen cake.  What a funny little guy!  He has been looking forward to his "MaTween" party for WEEKS!

Keian kept making slurping noises and saying "I eat it!"
"I LOVE IT!"  Keian was so impressed with his cake!

The nicest I've ever seen Scott print!
Seriously amazing!  All free hand.

We did cheat a little and use a printed Rust-eze sticker - just didn't want to mess up the hood!

Roasting Marshmallows CO style

When we were in Colorado in May we got to roast marshmallows over Jim's early Father's Day gift.  The kids LOVED it!

 Lovely!

Keian definitely needed a bath after his marshmallow experience!

Space Jam

Each year Kirra's first grade teacher collaborates with a second grade teacher and they put on a performance together - and what a performance it is!
It was over 50 minutes of memorized songs and lines.
Kirra loved learning all about Space and singing is something that is right up her alley.
She was a space woman.
She was also URANUS in their songs about the planets.

Kade and Daddy thrilled to be there!
I don't know if you can tell, but in the next few pictures Kirra appears to be GREEN!  And it's not because I have a bad camera - it is because she was GREEN!  Towards the end of the performance Kirra started yawning a lot, and then swaying, and they kind of nodding off.  I actually put my cameras down because I thought she was going to pass out and I wanted to be ready to run and help her.  She is so lucky the last song came quickly and she was able to sit down.  She seriously looked awful, was totally clammy and felt like she was going to throw up.  After a granola bar and some water she was doing better.  Daphne could feel her pain - she had passed out during one of their practices.  That is a long time for these little girls to stand in one spot - especially with Kirra wearing a garbage bag that didn't breath!

Kirra LOVED her first grade teacher, Mrs. Griego.  Her teacher had also been watching Kirra and was worried that she might go down during the performance.
Three sweet girls!  Three friends!  Three classmates!
